All About Main Parts Of Rotary Drum Dryer

A rotary drum dryer is used to dry the moisture up to 50% from raw material. You can use that dried material as biomass, for heat production, building biomass pellets and biomass briquettes, or for other purposes.

In that, with the help of an in-feed screw conveyor, the soaked raw material supplied into the drum dryer. After that, the raw material gets in direct contact with heat generated in the rotating drum. Then from raw material, moisture gets evaporated and further sucked by the Id fan. Finally, from the discharge screw conveyor, the dried material gets discharged. It is a huge machine but you need to know about its components. Here are some essential parts of the rotary drum dryer that you should be known:

Combustion chamber

The combustion reaction directs the airflow of the rotary dryer. The combustion chamber can be changed into either airflow in direction of material flow or airflow in the opposite direction of material flow. Its goal is that it should be in direct contact with material with the burner flame.

Burner

The burner is the engine at the back of the dryer that finds out the output of watts. You should choose a suitable burner specification that is important for proper and efficient drying of the material. Burners can be designed for a huge amount of fuel sources.

Air seal

Its main purpose is to stop air leakage into or out of the rotary drum. But it is needed to connect the stationary components to the rotating drum when the combustion chamber and discharge breeching meets in the drum. Many different options of seal exist that depend on the needs of the material.

Raw material feed

The raw material feed area or we can say the feed chute. In that, the material is fed into the machine usually by a feed screw. The raw material feed area is particularly designed to be strong and to reduce material build-up.

Drive assembly

The drive assembly is the means that originates the drum to rotate. There are many options available such that a chain and sprocket, gear and pinion, friction drive, or direct drive setup. A chain and sprocket setup is a model for smaller rotary drums. The gear and pinion drive are reserved for heavy applications. Friction drive assemblies are typically used for very small drums.
